SESSION OVERVIEW

Our annual Healthcare Symposium is back,  and this year it is a HYBRID event! Limited in-person registrations available as well as virtual options.

You will hear from guest panelists who work in planning and overseeing design and construction for hospitals and medical office facilities within their organizations.  Find out what trends they are seeing and what might be coming. Learn what gets them excited about construction, and what leaves them frustrated. Networking opportunities will be offered to both in-person and virtual attendees.

Rudy Lonergan, RA, EDAC, CHC, LEED AP BD+C
Director of Facilities Development
Northeast Georgia Health System

Rudy Lonergan is a licensed architect with unique experience in healthcare design and construction. As Director of Facilities Development with Northeast Georgia Health System, he has successfully managed the planning, design and construction delivery processes of over 1.5 billion dollars of complex healthcare projects.

Rudy is currently managing a $540 million clinical expansion at the main campus in Gainesville, GA. The project includes a new 78,000-square-foot emergency department, an 11-floor bed tower, central energy plant and 400-car parking deck that will open in early 2025. This is the largest construction project ever undertaken by the health system.

Rudy also managed a signature 100-bed Greenfield hospital project that opened April 2015 in Braselton, GA. The hospital utilized numerous Lean Construction principles such as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD “Light”). The highly innovative and sustainable project uses a geothermal heating and cooling system and many other Green initiatives to make it the first hospital in Georgia and one of only 10 in the country to achieve LEED for Healthcare Gold certification by USGBC.

Rudy received his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Kennesaw State University. He is a strong advocate for improving patient experience through evidence-based design and creating sustainable environments.

Thomas Lemieux
Director, Facilities Development
Grady Health System

Thomas Lemieux has more than twenty years of experience leading high performing planning, design, and construction teams for large complex construction and modernization projects.  He is a skilled design professional and second generation capital project administrator, and has spent the last 14 years working for nationally recognized academic health systems and gaining a tremendous experience and portfolio of healthcare projects.

Thomas joined Grady Health System in 2019 as the Director, Facilities Development.  Thomas was brought onboard to manage a capital program that will add strength and capacity to the health system by restoring many of the original 990 licensed beds. The hospital currently staff/operates between 700 and 800 beds, many of which are original ward style or semi-private beds.

Soon after joining Grady, the health system had a catastrophic flood impacting 675,000 of hospital space in the West Tower, which is the primary inpatient presence for the main hospital.  Grady was able to mobilize with over 900 contractors to demolish and rebuild the space which would result in making more than 250 beds available in eight months instead of 13 months.

Thomas graduated from Louisiana State University – Baton Rouge with a Bachelor Science in Civil Engineering.  Thomas also graduated from Washington University – St Louis with a post-graduate certificate in project management.
